Belgian Residence
This project featuring Bona non-toxic floor finishes was undertaken in the Belgian town of Auderghem.
The loft style home residential project features the use of coatings on a timber floor in the bathroom wet area. Bona coatings are suitable for use in wet areas provided a proper waterproofing membrane is first applied to the sub floor, and correct preparation and application of multiple coats of Bona primers and top coats are used.
In Australia there are specific requirements for the construction of bathroom floors written into the NCC (National Construction Code); in essence the floor needs to be impervious to moisture. It is a similar scenario to a swimming pool – any water needs to be contained in the room envelope without leaking. Leakage from wet room areas can cause serious problems with the general building envelope, so it needs to be carefully considered and resolved before installation.
