Bona’s heritage has shaped who we are today. What started in 1919 as a small family-owned grocery store in Malmö, Sweden –– that also made a protective polishing agent for wood floors called, “bonvax” –– has grown into a multinational company with a presence in over 90 countries.

Our story began over 100 years ago with Bona’s founder, Wilhelm Edner. At the time, his first love was selling coffee at his small grocery store in Malmö, Sweden. Little did he know that 'Bonvax' would become his best-selling product.

Bona Moved To A New Location

In 1959...

Bona moved to a wonderful new location: Malmö, Sweden.

In 1974...

Bona expanded into the world of adhesive production, opening a plant in Limburg, Germany

In 1979...

Bona became a pioneering force in the hardwood flooring industry by creating the first waterborne finish, removing toxic and hazardous chemicals from the product, and proving itself as a viable alternative to competitor products.

In 1984...

Bona launched its first UV-finish, making our debut on the pre-finished market arena.

Bona enters the U.S. market!
