Traffic HD AntiSlip on Weightlifting Platforms
One of Melbourne’s leading weightlifting clubs, 'Controlled Chaos Weightlifting' in Coburg Victoria has found an innovative use for Bona Traffic HD Anti-Slip. Traffic HD Anti-Slip has long been proven to provide protection with grip on timber floors, so in this instance it was used to to give 'lift with grip' for some of our elite Aussie weight lifters!
Controlled Chaos Club owner Joshua Ward used TrafficHD AS to provide surface protection and grip levels for the the Controlled Chaos timber lifting platforms. Over the years we have seen innovative uses of Bona coatings; we’ve seen Bona coatings used for furniture, walls and even ceilings! So applying Traffic HD AS on a timber sports surface where grip is absolutely critical seems a logical application.
In weight lifting, platforms are used for the athletes to stand on when competing. In addition to the obvious function of providing a platform for the athletes and absorbing the impact of 100’s of kgs of free weights being dropped from head height, it's critical that the platforms provide the athletes with the perfect level of grip. Not enough grip means the athletes can slip and sustain serious injury, too much grip likewise can cause a trip and fall.
Plywood offers good strength for the purpose, so Josh fabricated new platforms from plywood for the task and directly applied 2 coats of Traffic HD Anti-Slip. The best equipment going around is worth upwards of $50,000, so fabricating their own platforms has worked out well thanks to Bona Traffic HD Anti-Slip.
Josh states that platforms are one of those things that if they are not noticed, they do a great job. People will always complain if the platform is no good. but take for granted when they are great. Josh notes that Chaos make sure they have the best for their athletes and for safety reasons, it's super important to get the surface right.
The Bona coatings have now been used for 3 years, with rave reviews from competitors meaning Josh will continue to use the winning Bona formula. In fact with continued use the grip level is now right in the sweet spot, and the protection against wear has proven excellent. The plywood needed replacing before the platforms have needed re-coating!
Each year Controlled Chaos run a national competition that pulls in some of Australia's best lifters. This year the competition saw many national records broken, with Commonwealth Games gold medallists and a world record holder commenting how they loved the platform surface finish and grip.
